Based in Sandiway Cheshire, Petty Pool is a charity set up in May 1981, with operational activities divided between Petty Pool Vocational College, which provides education and training for young people with learning disabilities, and Petty Pool Outdoor Centre, providing personal development through adventurous activities.
The main focus of our work is Petty Pool Vocational College an education provider for young adults with learning difficulties in partnership with The Cheshire College South and West we support up to 90 full-time students from across Cheshire, Halton, Warrington and the North West. Located in the heart of Cheshire, and set in 40 acres of woodland in Sandiway, near Northwich, Petty Pool Vocational College aims to provide every learner with an effective and enjoyable educational experience that empowers them to reach their full potential.
As well as a range of entry leave qualifications students, who usually stay at Petty Pool for three years (depending on funding being agreed) embark on a range of opportunities including volunteering, work experience residentials, social activities. Our aim is for happy students who develop their personal, social and independent living skills as well as supporting them to develop employability. Our results speak for themselves and as well as gaining qualifications 95% of students go on to a positive outcome including 77% into employment related of which 35% was into paid employment. This is against a benchmark of nationally only 6% of people with learning disabilities finding paid employment.
